The Start
My name is Channce Baca. And I am the founder of Freedive Carolina. As a kid. I was freediving years and years before I knew it was a sport. I was always one of those kids that wanted to see how laps I could do in any pool on one breath. The longer the pool. The more exciting the challenge.
I have no idea how the inception of this began in me. But I would always challenge my friends to see who could hold our breaths the longest. It just fascinated me that we could suspend our breath and spend time in this other worldly medium of water. Where sound literally behaved different. Where the physics of the world were suddenly flipped on their head. Under water I could suddenly jump like a super hero. Throw objects around underwater like the gravity had been turned off.
Is freediving an art or a science?
First of all, “What is Freediving?” And how is it different than scuba diving or snorkeling?
Here, I will paint the picture of the entire world of Freediving for you. What sets it apart from other disciplines and why everyone should experience the beautiful underwater and inner potential that freediving can unlock for you.
To Breathe or Not to Breathe?
It’s time to clear the air once and for all. Breath. Is the single most important thing that is happening in life as you sit here reading this. As you sit, stand, lie, or even dive anywhere on this planet. Go ahead. Come up with something more fundamental to life that is happening right now. Inhalation. Exhalation. Inhalation. Exhalation. If one of those exhalations does not ebb back into an inhalation. Simply put. You die.
Why South Carolina?
WORLD CLASS CONDITIONS. That is why. It is only once you have traveled around the world freediving that you truly begin to understand just how special of a place Lake Jocassee is to freedive in.
For example. Where I completed my Instructor Program out in Koh Tao Thailand. We would take our boat about 10 to 15 minutes out into the Gulf of Thailand. To have about 30-33 meters (98-108) or so to work with. And if conditions were PERFECT. And I mean like once every couple months or so perfect.
